Founding Partner / Chief Investment Officer

Cory Whitaker launched Bowie in 2014. He also serves as an advisory director for Petrus Trust Company, which is the trustee for the Perot family’s trusts, and serves on the advisory board of the Terry Foundation. Cory has over 25 years of personal and professional investing experience across all major asset classes.

Prior to founding Bowie Capital Management, Cory was the portfolio manager for public equities at Perot Investments. He also sourced and executed private equity and debt investments. Prior to Perot, he worked in New York as an investment associate with J.P. Morgan Partners in private equity and as an investment banking analyst with Citigroup. He held internships as an investment analyst with Blue Ridge Capital, a long/short hedge fund, and as an audit intern with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Cory was born in Bowie, Texas. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University where he attended as a Terry Scholar and earned a B.B.A. in Accounting and M.S. in Finance. He was active in the Corps of Cadets and student government. He also earned his M.B.A. with high distinction from Harvard Business School where he was designated a Baker Scholar and awarded the John Loeb Fellowship as the top finance graduate. Mr. Whitaker is also a CFA® Charterholder.

Maegan Anders

Chief Financial Officer / Chief Compliance Officer

Maegan Anders has been with Bowie since its inception in 2014 and serves as the firm’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. She is instrumental in helping to build and drive the long-term strategic vision of Bowie and is responsible for the firm’s planning, accounting, operations, and compliance.

Maegan has over twenty years of experience in the investment advisor and private fund industry. Prior to Bowie, she was a Managing Director at Blue River Partners where she helped clients launch new advisory firms and private funds and served as their outsourced Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to Blue River, she served as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for an advisor to two private investment partnerships.  She began her career in Fort Worth on the Financial Control Team of Q Investments.

Ms. Anders earned her B.B.A in Finance from Abilene Christian University, graduating summa cum laude and was awarded the University Scholar Medal. She also earned the Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA)® Certification after completing the Yale School of Management’s Wealth Management Theory & Practice program.

Jared Balbach

Director of Partner Relations

Jared Balbach joined Bowie in 2020 and is responsible for all aspects of Partner Relations. This includes developing and maintaining relationships with our current and future partners, ensuring the Bowie team is continuously adding value beyond just strong investment performance to help our partners achieve their goals and he plays an integral part in formulating and driving strategic initiatives to enhance the Bowie brand.

Prior to joining Bowie, Jared worked 10 years at New Mountain Capital in New York, training across multiple disciplines of the business from an operations analyst culminating with being named Director and the Head Trader for their public equity investment funds.  In addition to his trading responsibilities, Mr. Balbach spent a large portion of his time working side by side with firm leadership, overseeing the day to day operations of the funds, and as a liaison with the Investor Relations team to manage client requests and communicate with both existing and prospective limited partners on investment strategy.

James Nguyen

Investment Analyst

James Nguyen joined Bowie in 2016. He performs fundamental analysis on our investment universe and monitoring for each of our portfolio holdings. James conducts industry deep dives, and is responsible for keeping track of secular growing trends as well as disruptions across industries, which contributes to our idea generation, portfolio construction, and position sizing processes.  James is the Chair of our Broker and Best Execution Committee, which duties include managing all executing broker and research relationships and also serves as a member of our Valuation Committee.

During his time at Bowie, he has contributed as the co-creator of our proprietary equity ranking tracker, company one-pager analysis, and fixed income opportunity and yield analysis tracker.

Prior to Bowie, he held a finance internship at Viet Duong Alsaleh Investment and Trades JSC in Hanoi, Vietnam.

James graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a B.S. in Finance and Information Technology and Systems while being awarded the Outstanding Finance Student Award.  James is a CFA ® Charterholder.

Tim Trinh

Investment Analyst

Tim Trinh joined Bowie Capital in 2021. Prior to joining Bowie, Tim was an Associate at LSP Investment Advisors in New York, where he was responsible for analyzing public investments across capital structures and evaluating thematic macro trends. Prior to LSP, he was an Investment Banking Analyst with Wells Fargo Securities in Houston focused on mergers and acquisitions.

Tim graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University and earned a B.B.A. in Finance.

Paige Pettitt

Director of Accounting and Operations

Paige Pettitt joined Bowie in 2016 as an Accounting and Operations Associate and was promoted to Director of Accounting and Operations in 2020. In her role, she oversees all portfolio accounting, audit, and tax work for our Funds, and is responsible for new partner onboarding and reporting.  She also leads the Firm’s operational due diligence with institutional clients and assists in many aspects of the Firm’s compliance program. Paige also currently serves as the Chair of our Valuation Committee and is a member of the Broker and Best Execution Committee.

Prior to joining Bowie, she was a Senior Tax Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the asset management group where she helped private equity and hedge fund clients complete their federal tax obligations. Prior to graduating, she obtained her Real Estate License while working for Austin City Realty and held summer internships at Thomson Reuters in the property tax group.

Paige is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a graduate of the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.P.A., Master in Professional Accounting.

Kelly Widder

Accounting and Operations Associate

Kelly Widder joined Bowie in 2020.  She is responsible for investment portfolio operations, accounting and reporting for our Funds and SMA Clients including trade settlement, position reconciliations and NAV calculations. She also assists in preparing various regulatory filings required as part of our compliance program.  Kelly currently serves as a member of our Valuation Committee and our Broker and Best Execution Committee.

Prior to joining Bowie, she was a Senior Tax Associate at KPMG in the alternative investments group where she assisted partnership and real estate clients with their federal tax obligations. She was also a finance and accounting intern at Wally Tingley & Associates, PC.

Kelly is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a graduate of the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.P.A., Master in Professional Accounting.

Ed Davis

Advisory Board

Dr. Davis joined the Advisory Board for Bowie Capital Management, LLC in April 2016.

He served as President of the Texas A&M Foundation for 23 years, retiring in 2016. He also served as interim president of the Texas A&M University for 14 months following Bob Gates’ appointment as Secretary of Defense. He continues to provide philanthropic counsel to donors and the Foundation as a principal gifts officer. He is recognized nationally for his expertise in higher education philanthropy and has more than 45 years of experience in higher education financial and endowment management. Dr. Davis has also been instrumental in modernizing the Foundation’s endowment portfolio and improving returns. During his tenure the Foundation’s assets have grown from $150 million to over $1.8 billion. During that same time, the Foundation provided more than $800 million to Texas A&M for expenditure.

In 2008, Dr. Davis was a recipient of the National Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation Award by the Council for Advancement in Support of Education (CASE).

Russell Freeman

Advisory Board

Mr. Freeman joined the Advisory Board for Bowie Capital Management, LLC in April 2016.

He serves as the Vice Chairman of the board, Vice President for Petrus Trust Company, which is the trustee for Perot family’s trusts. Mr. Freeman is the Chief Executive Officer of Hillwood International Energy, a Perot company, and its subsidiary, HKN Energy, Ltd for which he serves as a board member.

Mr. Freeman is a co-founder and non-executive managing member of GuideIT, LLC which is an IT services company. Mr. Freeman also serves as a board member for Cricut which operates in the project and crafting industry.

Russell Freeman has more than twenty-five years of operational, financial management, and business development experience, twenty of which were with Perot Systems Corporation. He served as Chief Operating Officer of Perot Systems from 2007 to 2009. Prior to this role, he served as Chief Financial Officer for seven years and was the main interface to the investment community, overseeing merger and acquisitions activities, and was responsible for the corporation’s planning, accounting, and treasury functions.
